Author Hannah Whitall Smith

First published in 1875, ‘The Christian’s Secret of A Happy Life,’ is now an American classic.  Born in Philadelphia in 1832, Hannah Whitall Smith was born into a prominent Quaker family.  She married Robert Pearsall Smith, also from a prominent Quaker family.  Hannah bore seven children, but only three lived to adulthood.  Greatly influenced by the Methodist revivals, he and her husband left the Quakers in 1858 and became lay speakers in the Holiness movement, and Hannah became a famous speaker and preacher in England, Germany, the U.S. and Switzerland.  Later, Hannah helped to start the Women’s Temperance Union.  Her book is an in-depth study of the Christian’s walk of faith, wherein one trusts in God to meet every need.  Chapters include:  ‘Bondage or Liberty,’ ‘The Joy of Obedience,’ and ‘The Life on Wings.’
